I love science!
Let me begin by saying I love science. It was always my favorite subject in school and it still fascinates me. My love for science led to a love for healthcare. Actually I’m passionate about health and wellness! After years in the pharmaceutical industry, I decided, at the tender age of 42, to go back to school and become a pharmacist. That was over a dozen years ago, and I’ve never looked back.
As a pharmacist you are the drug expert. Today’s pharmacist is also an educator; to your patients, other healthcare professionals, and to yourself. Consequently, I want to have a conversation about health and wellness. And while I’m not a writer, when you follow your passion, then writing becomes a vehicle to share this passion. So, join me on this journey to restore and regain your health!
First, a little about me…After graduating from Western Kentucky University and marrying the love of my life, we settled down in my husband’s hometown of Bowling Green, and we’ve been here for 32 years. We have raised four beautiful children (still raising a teenager!), and our family is gradually expanding to include a wonderful daughter-in-law and son-in-law. I’m also a new grandmother, which is such a joy to see your children becoming wonderful parents. I work in a busy independent pharmacy with compassionate, hardworking people, including my college friend and Chi Omega sister, Mary Lee Snodgrass.
Some joys that I have realized: running marathons, teaching myself Spanish, and overcoming a paralyzing fear of flying that has opened a whole new world of travel. Still on my bucket list (among other things): a triathlon, a mission trip, and competing on ‘Amazing Race’ with my daughter, Caitlin! My days are filled with family, friends, two extra large dogs, a cat, and five backyard chickens. I’m more partial to sunrises over sunsets, to baseball over basketball, and to music over silence. And I truly believe what Confucius said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
Boy! Have I seen changes . . .
I can’t believe I am at the point where I have to introduce myself! To begin, I am a Registered Pharmacist and have been practicing pharmacy for over 32 years. And Boy! Have I seen changes . . . but I will get to that later.
I am from a family of pharmacists. Two sisters are pharmacists—and all my siblings and I grew up working in my Dad’s pharmacy. Currently, I work with Tori at an extremely busy retail pharmacy. Also, I have practiced in hospital, psychiatric, long-term, and consultant settings.
For the first 25 years, my job was just that: a J.O.B.! Once I was shown the path to wellness, I found my passion: helping others regain their health. I have grown spiritually and professionally from this awakening. So, I am ready to share what I have learned.
On a more personal level, I have been married for over 31 years to a unique, loving, and especially supportive husband. We have two sons that are open to my ideas; hopefully, they will share these concepts with their families one day.
On a lighter note, I love bourbon, boots, birds, bunnies, baskets, buttons, and the color brown.
